Minnekhada is part of the Tri-Cities Nature Challenge

We are happy to report that will Minnekhada Regional Park will be one of the locations taking part in the Tri-Cities Nature Challenge for 2022. The City Nature Challenge is an annual event that takes place in many locations around the world, with the intent of allowing ordinary citizens to help document species, right in their neighbourhoods.

Here is some more information about the City Nature Challenge and more specifically the Tri-Cities Nature Challenge.

A key part of this activity (but not required) will be the use of the iNaturalist app on your mobile device. This free app, which is available for Apple and Android devices, allows you to help identify species simply by taking a picture. We recommend downloading and installing the app prior to the event, if you haven’t already. More information about iNaturalist can be found here.

At Minnekhada we plan to offer three guided nature walks on Saturday, April 30, starting at 9 AM.  These walks will be suitable for the entire family and will not be overly challenging. The main intent is to encourage people to explore and document species at Minnekhada in three main ecosystems; Marsh/Wetland, Temperate Rainforest and Farm/Grassland.

Of particular note is the visit to the historic Minnekhada Farm property, which is normally not available to the public. We have scheduled this guided walk for 11AM so that you can potentially enjoy two guided walks.

Here is our tentative schedule. Each walk will be limited to a maximum of 20 participants so please register early to secure your spot, otherwise it will be first come, first served on the morning of the event. Please also note that parking at the Quarry Road parking lot can get full early on weekend.
